Where Does the Gray Zone Warfare Roadmap Stand?
The Gray Zone Warfare roadmap has reached Rogue Ops, with Update 0.5 now live following its October 22 release. That matters because crafting, Hideout construction, and smuggling give your next deployment new objectives beyond vendor tasks and equipment runs. The Gray Zone Warfare roadmap also needs a fresh calendar: the older schedule is outdated, and MADFINGER Games is preparing an updated version.
For players jumping back into Lamang, Rogue Ops is the immediate milestone. It introduces another progression loop, expands the island, and changes how existing characters carry their progress forward.
| Milestone | Timing or status | What it means for players |
|---|---|---|
| Rogue Ops Supporter Preview | October 19 | Preview access preceded the wider launch |
| Update 0.5: Rogue Ops | Released October 22 | Hideout, crafting, smuggling, and additional content are live |
| Revised development roadmap | In preparation | The older roadmap has been marked outdated |
| Further Hideout development | Planned for future updates | Additional functionality, research, and more upgrade levels are planned |
Earlier plans grouped future development under names including Battle Forge, Shadow Strike, Rising Tensions, and Ground Zero. Those names belong to the previous development outline; its dates should stay attached to that historical plan.
Focus your return around the systems available in 0.5. There is already plenty to learn, especially if your previous routine revolved around completing tasks, selling loot, and buying better equipment.
Rogue Ops Adds Hideout Building, Crafting, and Smuggling
The practical change in the Gray Zone Warfare roadmap is that loot now feeds an operation you can build. Rogue Ops adds a Hideout with three rooms, each offering three upgrade levels.

Materials can become components, components can become useful equipment, and production can supply contraband contracts. That gives you reasons to search particular locations beyond their cash value.
What Each Hideout Room Does
| Hideout room | Function in Update 0.5 | Resources and progression |
|---|---|---|
| Laboratory | Produces medical products and drugs, including products used for smuggling contracts | Requires specialized equipment, construction components, and production ingredients |
| Electronics Workshop | Disassembles, modifies, and assembles mechanical and electronic components | Recipes must be unlocked; devices can be unlocked and upgraded |
| Utility Room | Supplies electricity for equipment and other rooms | Further functionality is planned |
The Laboratory introduces semi-passive income, but getting it operational requires expensive, hard-to-find equipment. Plan resource runs around the components your upgrades require.
The Electronics Workshop changes how you evaluate ordinary loot. Some items can be dismantled into components used for crafting or tasks. Crafting itself is almost immediate, while production and disassembly take longer.
Check recipe requirements before selling materials. Tracking Tags and Stims have been removed from vendor purchases and added to crafting, so cash alone no longer replaces every supply you need.
Hacking tools also connect crafting to exploration. They come in three tiers and let you bypass electronic locks to enter restricted areas. Work toward the relevant recipe before setting out with a locked area as your objective.
How Smuggling Contracts Work
Smuggling adds a timed delivery challenge with consequences for failure:
- Gather the required resources and contraband before accepting the contract.
- Hand the contraband to the appropriate vendor.
- Travel to the marked location and collect the smuggling backpack.
- Deliver the shipment to its designated smuggling zone within one hour.
The contract fails if you die, miss the deadline, or place the backpack in another player's stash. Its visible appearance also identifies the carrier.
Choose your mode with those stakes in mind. In Warfare, the PvEvP mode, smugglers and hunters have opposing objectives that can produce player encounters. In Joint Operations, the PvE mode, hunting involves regular AI enemies.
Review your route before accepting the contract. The one-hour limit starts with acceptance, so preparation belongs before that commitment.
Character Progression, the Soft Wipe, and Medical Changes
For returning players, the Gray Zone Warfare roadmap now includes separate progression across PvE and PvEvP characters. Update 0.5 lets an account maintain up to four playable characters, each with a chosen mode and faction.

You cannot have two characters with the same mode-and-faction combination simultaneously. Character deletion is limited to one per week, so plan your lineup around the factions and modes you want to play with friends.
What the 0.5 Soft Wipe Changes
| Progress or account element | Update 0.5 behavior |
|---|---|
| Completed tasks and rank | Retained from Update 0.4 |
| Unlocked apparel, vendor levels, and statistics | Retained |
| Locker contents and money | Wiped |
| Existing character progression | Transferred to the mode you choose |
| Existing character faction | Stays the same |
| Mode transfer choice | Irreversible |
Choose the destination for your existing progression carefully when entering 0.5. Decide whether that established character belongs in Joint Operations or Warfare before completing the transfer.
The medical overhaul also deserves attention before your next difficult task. Treatment now works by body part rather than individual wound. Multiple broken bones in one leg require a single splint; injuries to both legs still require separate treatment.
Medical supplies have clearer differences in quality and purpose. Some treat several conditions: a surgical kit can address broken bones, organ damage, and bleeding. Others have placement restrictions, including tourniquets that cannot be used on the head or torso.
Review your medical loadout against those restrictions. Blood bags and provisions such as bottles now use volume measurements, with your character consuming the amount needed instead of spending a fixed charge.
New Weapons, Harder Locations, and Technical Improvements
The Gray Zone Warfare roadmap is also expanding what happens outside your Hideout. Rogue Ops adds seven weapons, hundreds of weapon parts, new tasks, and high-difficulty locations.

The new firearms are the AUG, including AUG A3, Benelli M4, G3, G36, FAMAS, UMP, and Glock 18C. Most new weapons are found in the world rather than purchased from vendors, and rare weapon builds have low drop rates.
Make exploration part of your equipment plan. Repeated vendor visits alone will not cover most of the newly added firearms.
New Places and Combat Changes
| Addition | Update 0.5 details |
|---|---|
| Lakevale Sanctuary | New Tier 4 location identified as an Asylum |
| Northern Reach | New Tier 4 Military Research Site |
| RLSL-1 | New Tier 4 Radio Observatory |
| Smaller locations | 15+ additions, including drug huts, apartment buildings, Khmer temple ruins, Rocky City, and underground tunnels |
| AI behavior | All AI NPCs can use bandages; selected factions can throw grenades |
| Combat difficulty | Increased in Tier 3 and new Tier 4 locations |
Carry supplies with the revised AI behavior in mind. An enemy that can heal deserves continued attention after taking a hit, while grenade-capable factions add another threat to a static position.
New tasks connect the expanded world to Hideout development, smuggling, and hunting. Main Tasks, Long-Term Contracts, and Chameleon magazine tasks also receive additions.
Environmental storytelling gets more interactive through voice recordings and televisions that react to player actions. Traps, environmental puzzles, and electronic locks give exploration additional consequences.
Combat Outposts change too. The largest outposts temporarily become regular world locations and cannot be captured. Other outposts are distributed more evenly, while Vulture moves to the standard vendor screen.
Performance and Anti-Cheat Work
Rogue Ops upgrades the game to Unreal Engine 5.7 and introduces Iris network replication. Technical changes also address crashes, memory leaks, and hitching.
| Performance comparison | Earlier benchmark FPS | Update 0.5 benchmark FPS |
|---|---|---|
| RX 6700 XT class during combat | 65 | 75.4 |
| RTX 3050 | 53 | 62 |
The broader benchmark improvement is approximately 10%, with gains on both client and server sides. Compare your own combat performance after updating, especially if hitching previously interrupted fights.
Anti-cheat changes include additional in-house measures, stricter punishments, and notifications when someone you reported receives a ban. Lighting, clouds, spatial audio, and surface-dependent footsteps also receive attention.
What Comes After Rogue Ops?
The clearest future direction in the Gray Zone Warfare roadmap is continued Hideout development and the journey toward Ground Zero.
The Hideout's initial three-room structure is intended to grow. Planned additions include more upgrade levels, research, new interactions, and expanded Utility Room functionality. These plans connect your operation to discovering more about Lamang.
Ground Zero remains a longer-term destination. Rogue Ops builds the resource gathering, equipment, and capabilities intended to support that eventual journey.
The older Gray Zone Warfare roadmap also outlined certifications, stealth mechanics, and deeper faction conflict. Keep those ideas attached to the earlier plan rather than assigning them a release season from its outdated calendar. Likewise, the old roughly six-month update cadence belongs to that previous schedule.
For your next sessions, work through the changes already in place:
- Check your character's mode before transferring existing progression.
- Review Hideout requirements before selling crafting materials.
- Prepare supplies and a route before accepting a smuggling contract.
- Update medical kits for body-part treatment and item restrictions.
- Explore the new locations for weapons and task objectives.
If you're starting fresh, get Gray Zone Warfare on Steam and build your plans around Rogue Ops.
